Mud Scab

Mud Scab or Dermatophilosis is not a scab in the "medical" sense of the word, but an infection of the horse's dermis caused by the bacteria Dermatophilus congolensis. It is maintained by a humid environment populated by bacteria and fungi. This seasonal pasture dermatitis is therefore more prevalent in autumn, winter or spring, especially if they are particularly rainy for meadow horses. It is also a pathology encountered in horses remaining in the stable whose litters are not changed regularly enough, in which case the feet remain in a permanently damp and soiled universe.
